This summer Una Barry sings three masses for the Sung Eucharist at Bradford Cathedral, on Sundays at 10.15am, with the organist Alex Woodrow:
Sunday 7 August: Messa di San Giuseppe by Johann Ernst Eberlin
Sunday 21 August: Short Mass in C by Richard Runciman Terry
Sunday 28 August: Missa in Simplicitate by Jean Langlais
After four years of remarkable work, the young and talented Alex Woodrow, Director of Music at Bradford Cathedral, is leaving to become Head of Choral Music at Solihull School. As the youngest director of music ever to have been appointed to any British cathedral, Alex will be a hard act to follow and be missed by everyone. As his parting shot, Alex and the soprano, Una Barry, have teamed up for three Sundays in August to bring some joy to and provide wonderfully varied German, English and French music for the main 10.15am Eucharistic service.
When asked about the whole effort, Una remarked:
ĎAlex and I have been working our socks off behind the scenes planning, scheming and rehearsing since May...the Dean, Jerry Lepine, and the congregation are so deeply appreciative. Friends from all corners are coming to hear us and visit Bradford, and such support makes the commitment all the more worthwhile. In the end, God deserves the best we can offer, so letís hope.í If you have never been to Bradford Cathedral before, expect a warm welcome by everyone - for no one escapes!
